Theme Like a Professional!

Managing web content has always been tricky, but with WordPress, any web designer can have a flexible, free and powerful CMS to use not just on blogging projects, but on all sorts of websites. In How To Be a Rockstar WordPress Designer you will learn step by step how to take a straight HTML site and power it with WordPress.

During the course of the book you’ll build THREE WordPress themes, a blog, a portfolio site and a general site with menus and submenus. Each theme demonstrates different aspects of WordPress theming and all three are packaged in with the book so you’ll have Photoshop, HTML, CSS and WordPress PHP files to refer to. You can take a look at the three sites online here:

Who is This Book For?

The book is aimed at anyone with a solid understanding of HTML/CSS. You don’t need to know PHP, you don’t need to have ever even touched WordPress before. The examples begin from scratch and build on each other, while basic PHP principles that are used are explained in an easy to understand manner.

If you’ve ever wanted to get started with WordPress theming, or you’re looking to take your skills to the next level with advanced theming concepts, this is the book for you!

Be a Thought-leader

In your company meeting room, in an auditorium, in front of a PowerPoint presentation or at your own keynote address, the skill of presenting allows you to be a thought-leader. There is no more powerful way to communicate your ideas than through a great presentation.

To take your career or your personal brand to the next level, giving presentations is a must. But most people fall into one of two camps – they’re afraid of presenting, or they don’t know how to do it well.

Rockstar Presentations was written to transform every reader into a fearless, talented presenter. The tips and techniques in the book can be effectively applied by anyone – beginners and veteran speakers alike.

How good would it feel to give a talk on your ideas, to feel great about it, and to be met with heartfelt applause at the end?

With years of experience giving talks to bosses, peers, clients and students, Joseph Lewis can teach you to be a Rockstar Presenter.

Do You Get Nervous When Asked to Present?

Public speaking is one of the world’s most common phobias. If you speak at a hundred miles an hour, if your hands shake, if you feel nauseous when presenting, you’re in the grip of that fear.

How is it that great presenters seem so cool, calm and collected on stage? Is it because they don’t get nervous? Not at all. Even the world’s greatest performers get nervous, but they’re are able to hide their nerves by using simple, time-tested strategies for avoiding stage fright. Forget everything you’ve heard about imagining your audience in their underwear. If you were nervous before, that won’t help!

Instead, Joseph Lewis shares clever and non-intuitive tips for staying calm and in control during your presentations. With enough practice, you’ll start to enjoy yourself, crack jokes, and bond with your audience.

Here you’ll find exactly what’s covered in the book, chapter by chapter. Chances are there’s a chapter especially for you!

History, Part 1: Stunning Speeches

Learn what made The Gettysburg Address and Churchill’s “We Shall Fight…” speeches so good, and the simple tips you can learn from them.

Public Speaking, in General

This chapter establishes the essentials of a good presentation. You’ll learn how to prepare and how to practice your presentation for a seamless delivery. When the time comes to give your talk, Joseph’s tips will help you avoid stage fright and deliver an exciting presentation.

Team Meetings, of the Garden Variety

Moving up at work will probably require you to give presentations to your colleagues. They’re an opportunity to influence the direction of your company – or your clients – and make a great impression if done well.

History, part 2: Killer Keynotes

The huge influence of people like Steve Jobs and Randy Pausch (‘The Last Lecture’) began with their stunning keynote addresses. Learn what makes their talks so effective.

Keynote Addresses

You have the opportunity to give a keynote address. This chapter will show you how to embrace this incredible opportunity, wow your audience, and spread your big ideas.

The Pitch

Pitching your ideas – or your product – to a room is a nerve-wracking experience. You need to bring your A-game because you may only get one chance at success. In this chapter you’ll learn that a good pitch stands on three legs, and the trick to a good pitch.

History, part 3: Death by PowerPoint

A warning on the risks of failing to communicate information properly, focusing on the fascinating story of the Space Shuttle Challenger and Space Shuttle Columbia disasters.

Head of the Class

Teaching others is one of the biggest responsibilities we can undertake. If you’re ever given the opportunity to teach, this chapter will give you fundamental tips on how to succeed and leave a lasting impression on your students.

Conclusion & Bonus Chapter: PowerPoint Pointers

In this special bonus chapter you’ll learn the PowerPoint pitfalls to avoid – from fancy footers, to washed out watermarks, to adding too much text. Joseph gives you five simple rules to follow instead.

Bonus: Get 3 Great PowerPoint Templates Worth the Cover Price!

Three top-selling PowerPoint layouts included with the book will make sure you’re never scrambling to put a layout together again.

Everything you need to know about giving great presentations – with bonuses worth the cover price!

Freelance Statistics Report http://rockablepress.com/minibooks/freelance-statistics-report/ http://rockablepress.com/minibooks/freelance-statistics-report/#comments Thu, 25 Sep 2008 18:03:01 +0000 admin http://rockablepress.com/?p=27

There are millions of freelancers around the globe, but for most, freelancing is something done in isolation. What do other freelancers charge? Do they quote or estimate? How many hours a week do they bill? These and many other questions are what we set out to answer in the Global Freelancer Survey of 2007.

3700 people took part in the survey from 6 continents and 10 industries. The results revealed some interesting facts:

Do Freelancers Work More? And if they do, do they Earn More?

We asked freelancers how many hours a week they worked, and just how that compared to their work as regular employees. Additionally we asked them how their earnings compared to the ol’ nine to five, here’s what we found out:

It almost seems unsurprising that Australians are the most laid back of all freelancers in the world (it must be all the sun and sand we have here).

And just what are other freelancers charging?

Of course the question almost every freelancer will want answered is, just how much do other freelancers charge? In our complete report we’ve gone into a lot more detail of ranges, countries and even genders, but here’s perhaps the most sought after statistics, the average hourly rates according to industry:

Why the charge?

Close to 300 manhours of work went into hosting, compiling, analysing and reporting the survey. While it has been distributed freely to anyone who chose to participate, we are charging for the results to help pay for the rather large expense of putting it together. We thank you for your understanding.

Rockstar Personal Branding http://rockablepress.com/minibooks/rockstar-personal-branding/ http://rockablepress.com/minibooks/rockstar-personal-branding/#comments Wed, 24 Sep 2008 18:03:18 +0000 admin http://rockablepress.com/?p=29

Personal branding isn’t very different than product branding, except that the entity being branded is you. Just like Nike uses its brand to attach a certain personality and uniqueness to the shoes it sells, your personal brand is made up of the qualities and unique traits you relay about yourself. Your personal brand represents the way you want other people to think about you.

Personal branding hinges on perception and the stories you tell about yourself: the things you emphasize and the things you don’t. Does personal branding involve lying? It shouldn’t. More than that, it shouldn’t have to. You don’t need to be a rockstar to build an extraordinary personal brand. — From Rockstar Personal Branding by Skellie
